Future Issues:

For the sake of continuity a mechanism should be put in place listing the webmaster and moderators of the chat groups, perhaps they could be kept in the MS files on the group site  and updated at the end of each chair’s term.

We welcome all of you to the community forum. It is a place to have an engaged and informed conversation about the shifting relationship with the field of interpreting and the Deaf community. A way to look at our history and ensure we are building a healthy future together. I believe this is my last report so-I thank you for the opportunity to work with all of you and look forward to doing more in the future.

Thank you for all of your hard work,
Lynnette Taylor

Region 5 - 2006 Report
April 28 - Fairbanks, AK

Thank you Lewis Merkin, IDP member and DML chair for stepping in and running the meeting!

IDP held a forum during the Region V RID conference in Anchorage, Alaska on April 28, 2006. Approximately 10 people were in attendance including Bruce King, the Board Liason. Because several of the participants were new to IDP, time was spent explaining the purpose and nature of the SIGs in general and IDP in particular. The main points : the lack of respect for IDP's in regards to our wealth of knowledge of the language and culture ; the lack of appropriate settings for codas to learn the interpreting proces. ITP's tend not to include any curriculum for CODAs. And finally, CODAs need a safe environment to learn in.  How can IDP address this?
